Dave Johnson: 7 Ways Obama Lied About Your Health Coverage

President Obama promised that if you have health insurance now, it won't change. Here are sevn ways he lied:

1) Under the new law your insurer can't drop your coverage after you get sick. This is a change in the coverage you already have. Obama lied.

2) Your children can continue to be insured under your plan until they are 26. (Click and read this.) This is a change in the coverage you already have. Obama lied.

3) New coverage is added, including preventative care like mammograms and colonoscopies with no "out of pocket" like charging a deductible, co-pay or coinsurance. This is a change in the insurance you already have. Obama lied.

4) If you pay for your own insurance and your income is below a certain level, you will receive subsidies to help pay for your insurance. Even if you earn four times the federal poverty rate, or currently about $93,000 for a family of four, you will have to pay no more than 9.5 percent of your income. This is a change in the coverage you already have. Obama lied.

5) The law prohibits insurance companies from placing a "lifetime cap" on the amount of coverage you have. Many people were discovering that they reached this cap right when they needed insurance the most. This is a change in the coverage you already have. Obama lied.

6) The cost of your insurance will be lower than it would be without this law. There are several ways the new law will lower the cost of your insurance. First, by requiring people to have insurance, people can't "free load" by showing up at the emergency room without insurance. Currently when this happens hospitals charge more to everyone else. So the new law's "mandate" stops the "free loaders" -- the cause of these extra charges -- from running up your insurance cost. Also, the new law's "80/20 Rule" says insurers have to use 80 percent of their revenue for health care. This even means you might get a rebate. This is a change in the coverage you already have. Obama lied.

7) Insurers won/'t be able to keep you from getting insurance or charge you more based on a pre-existing condition. This is a change in the coverage you already have. Obama lied.

Therefore

So President Obama lied when he said that if you already have health coverage you don't have to worry about changes! Therefore we need to get rid of the law so insurers can cut you off after you get sick, charge you for preventative care, cut your children off from having insurance, keep you from getting insurance if you have a pre-existing condition, place a lifetime "cap" on your coverage and make you pay more! It's time to put some teeth into "let him die!"

Deadly storms leave millions without power in eastern U.S

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Nearly 4 million homes and businesses were without power on Saturday amid a record heat wave in the eastern United States after deadly thunderstorms downed power lines from Indiana to New Jersey. At least 11 people were killed.

Statewide emergencies were declared in Washington D.C., Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia because of damage from overnight storms, which brought hurricane-force winds along a 500-mile (800-km) stretch.

Forecasters predicted more severe thunderstorms as renewed heat blanketed the area on Saturday.

Temperatures surpassed 100 Fahrenheit (37 Celsius) in several southern cities, including Atlanta, where the mercury hit 106 degrees (41 Celsius), and Charlotte, North Carolina, where it reached 102 F (38 C), according to Accuweather.com. The nation's capital cooled down to 96 Fahrenheit (96 C).

Restoring power in some areas could take up to a week. Utilities in Ohio and Virginia described damage as catastrophic.

"It's going to be a while before some folks get power, and with the heat, that's our big concern," said Bob Spieldenner, a spokesman for the Virginia Department of Emergency Management.

More than 1 million Virginia customers had no power in the worst outage not linked to a hurricane in the state's history, he said.

Six people were killed in Virginia in storm-related incidents.

Utilities or state emergency agencies reported the following outages and damage:

- Maryland: About 869,000 customers without power with outages reported in every county.

- West Virginia: More than 600,000 customers without power.

- Ohio: Power out across two-thirds of state, about 1 million homes and businesses without electricity, and one storm-related death reported. Governor John Kasich said power could take a week to be restored fully.

- New Jersey: Atlantic County declared a state of emergency, and at least 206,000 customers were without power. Two cousins, aged 2 and 7, were killed by a falling tree in state park.

- District of Columbia: 67,000 power customers affected. State of emergency declared.

- Pennsylvania: 32,500 homes and businesses without power.

- Indiana: 135,000 customers with power lost.

- Kentucky: 187 customers without power.

- North Carolina: 618 homes and businesses with power lost.

The storm also knocked out Amtrak passenger rail service between Washington and Philadelphia, Amtrak said.

Power companies called in crews from utilities in neighboring states to help restore electricity.

FEEL THE HEAT

The widespread power outages came as the National Weather Service forecast more heat and severe thunderstorms across the Ohio Valley, through the mid-Atlantic states and into New York.

Blazing temperatures in New York, where thermometer readings were in the 90s on Saturday, came ahead of a possible strike by 8,500 Consolidated Edison workers over a new contract. The union membership has authorized its leaders to call a strike at midnight Saturday, when the collection bargaining agreement expires.

If the 8,500 Con Ed workers do walk off, that would leave managers and any crews the company can hire to fix whatever problems arise as 8.2 million New Yorkers crank up their air conditioners to beat the heat.

Up and down the East Coast, state and local officials urged residents to seek air-conditioned areas, drink lots of water and wear light-colored clothing. They also called for people to watch out for those most vulnerable to high heat - the elderly, small children and the mentally ill.

"Our biggest concern right now is temperatures going up to 100 degrees today," said Ed McDonough, spokesman for the Maryland Department of Emergency Management.

Records for June were broken on Friday in Washington, Atlanta, Nashville, Tennessee and Louisville, Kentucky. The temperature hit at least 104 F (40 C) in all four cities, according to the National Weather Service.

The high temperatures were blamed for the deaths of two brothers, ages 3 and 5, in Bradley County in eastern Tennessee. They had been playing outside in 105-degree heat.

The high heat prompted the AT&T National golf tournament at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, to close the competition to spectators and volunteers on Saturday.

Weather even struck the Internet. The storms disrupted power for Amazon.com Inc cloud computing operations and disrupted online services such as the video streaming website Netflix, photo sharing company Instagram and online pinboard Pinterest, the Wall Street Journal reported.

A representative from Amazon could not be reached for comment. Netflix and Pinterest reported on their Twitter pages by early Saturday that they had resolved their problems.

Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Thomas tie the knot

Yves Herman / Reuters file

Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Thomas in Cannes, France, in May.

By Natalie Finn, E! Online

Alec Baldwin is once again the marrying man. The "30 Rock" star, 54, and Hilaria Thomas, 28, tied the knot in front of family and friends Saturday at the Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral in Manhattan, according to People.

Obviously no paparazzi were invited, but who did make the cut?

Ireland Baldwin, the groom's 16-year-old daughter with ex-wife Kim Basinger, was in attendance, along with Jimmy Fallon and "SNL" and "30 Rock" producer Lorne Michaels. Also on hand to celebrate the big day were Tina Fey, Mariska Hargitay, Woody Allen as well as Alec's brothers Billy and Stephen. Befitting the occasion, the venue was decked out with bridal-white roses, hydrangeas and calla lilies.

Baldwin began dating Thomas last summer and immediately seemed smitten.

"Running for mayor and being the mayor are two completely different things, and my life is changing," Baldwin told David Letterman when the "Late Show" host quizzed him in August about a possible run for mayor of NYC.

"I'm going to do the show for another year, and beyond that, I've got a woman in my life, my girlfriend, who is very important to me."

"Would I rather be handcuffed to the emergency command center in Maspeth during a hurricane, holding down the fort and making sure all the plows are working," he added, "or would I rather spend some of that '30 Rock' money traveling the world with my girlfriend?"

Fans got their first glimpse of Thomas that night, when the camera cut to her waiting in the "Late Show" green room.

Baldwin popped the question with a princess-cut diamond ring in April. There were rumors that they were considering eloping while abroad for the Cannes Film Festival, but seeing the betrothed couple at the City Clerk's Office, picking up a marriage license like ordinary folks, just seemed so much more ... Baldwinesque, don't you think?

Same goes for what happened on the street outside afterward!

Huge demo as Hong Kong marks 15 years under China

Hong Kong's biggest protest for nearly a decade packed the former British colony's streets Sunday in a defiant reception for its new leader and a show of popular anger after 15 years of Chinese rule.

The vast rally came after Leung Chun-ying, a millionaire property consultant seen as close to China's communist authorities, was sworn in as chief executive in front of Chinese President Hu Jintao -- who had his speech interrupted.

Hu's visit and Leung's inauguration have become focal points for growing discontent towards Beijing, which has surged to a new post-handover high amid soaring housing costs, limited democracy and perceived meddling by China.

"Hong Kong has become much worse off," Eric Lai of the Civil Human Rights Front told the marchers. "Our rights are under serious threat."

Organisers put the crowd at 400,000, their largest claimed turnout for eight years and almost twice their number last year. But police said only 63,000 attended -- although that was also their largest figure for eight years.

The July 1 marches marking Hong Kong's handover have become an annual fixture since 2003, when 500,000 people showed their fury over a security bill and economic downturn, a key factor in the then chief executive Tung Chee-hwa stepping down the following year.

Sunday's crowd ranged from engineers and civil servants to maids and students, and represented groups from the Falun Gong spiritual movement to trade unions, as well as ordinary citizens young and old.

In sweltering heat the last of them reached their destination almost six hours after the first marchers set out, and along the way they blocked streets far across the city, stranding buses and trams as they surrounded them.

Mostly clad in the mourning colours of black and white, they carried placards calling for "One person one vote" and chanted "Power to the people", sometimes in more of a carnival atmosphere, complete with drums and songs.

The financial centre enjoys significant autonomy and civil liberties unheard of on the mainland under the "one country, two systems" model covering its return to China in 1997 after more than a century of British rule.

But marcher Jacky Lim, 37, who carried Hong Kong's former colonial flag bearing the British union jack, said: "There is nothing worth celebrating today. Hong Kong is being gradually destroyed by the Communist Party.

"The direct interference of Beijing in the election of Leung Chun-ying is a clear example," he said.

Hong Kong does not yet choose its leader by universal suffrage, and Leung was elected as chief executive in March by a committee stacked with pro-Beijing business elites.

A spokesman for the Hong Kong government said it "fully respected" freedom of expression and the right to "take part in processions", and would listen to the demonstrators' views "in a humble manner".

Earlier, as President Hu began his speech to around 2,300 guests at Leung's inauguration, a protestor inside the harbourfront venue repeatedly shouted "End one-party rule".

The man also referred to the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 in Beijing, and was rapidly bundled away by security personnel, while the audience drowned him out with extended applause for Hu.

Beijing's support for "one country, two systems" and the right of Hong Kongers to rule the territory was "unwavering", said Hu.

"We will follow the Basic Law... to continue to advance democratic development in Hong Kong," said the president, who will step down as part of a once-in-a-decade leadership transition in Beijing starting later this year.

Hu -- who said Friday he hoped to understand Hong Kongers' "life and expectations" -- left for Beijing before the march began.

Stifling security was imposed for his three-day visit, with police using pepper spray on demonstrators at one point on Saturday, and briefly detaining a Hong Kong reporter who shouted a question about Tiananmen at Hu.

Late on Sunday some 300 protesters held a demonstration outside the Beijing representative office in Hong Kong, burning copies of the city's mini-constitution before dispersing around midnight.

China's economic rise has helped spur impressive growth in Hong Kong and boost the city's status, and supporters packed a stadium Sunday for a gala celebration featuring a People's Liberation Army parachute display.

But tensions are growing between the seven million locals and their northern neighbours, with newly rich Chinese mainlanders accused of everything from pushing up property prices to monopolising maternity beds.

A poll released by Hong Kong University last week showed mistrust towards Beijing at 37 percent, a post-handover high, and the number of Hong Kongers identifying themselves primarily as citizens of China plunged to a 13-year low in another survey.

There are also complaints about a widening gap between rich and poor and Leung has promised to tackle the grievances but ahead of his swearing-in, a group of demonstrators burned his portrait.

"If we work together, I am sure Hong Kong -- the Pearl of the Orient -- will sparkle again," Leung said in his speech.
