Woman's purse stolen in attempted carjacking on Bourbon Street ...

A woman was held-up at gunpoint late Wednesday night in an attempted carjacking in the 1100 block of Bourbon Street, the New Orleans Police Department said. The woman was sitting inside of her car shortly after 11 p.m. on Nov. 7 when she told police she was approached by a man wielding a handgun who then demanded that she get out of the vehicle.

The frightened woman quickly complied, running into a nearby store, NOPD said. An accomplice then joined the thief, and the two of them tried to put the car into gear. However, neither of them was able to succeed, police said.

Unable to master the gearshift, the pair finally gave up and fled the scene on foot with the victim's purse. No arrests have been announced yet.

Police ask anyone who has information on the robbery to call Crimestoppers at 504.822.1111 or toll-free at 877.903.7867. Tips can also be texted to C-R-I-M-E-S (274637); text TELLCS then the crime information. Callers or texters do not have to give their names or testify and can earn a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an indictment.
