The WHI was the largest and longest trial of postmenopausal women using hormone therapy (HT). ?I ask that this be symbolic of us handing the keys over to you and giving you the responsibility,? said Blanchard. ?Bring these boats and our crew back safe.?

The Captains keep the branch and toss it over the side of the boat as they return home.

Margaret Propper, a Birmingham, AL based travel agent and a long-term top producer for the company, inaugurated the Safari Endeavour with a crack of a champagne bottle against the hull.? "What we have is really a very robust budget even in the face of challenges," said Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn.

Unlike a defense bill approved by the House last week that exceeded budget caps on defense spending, the bill approved by the Senate panel? is? $6 billion less than this year's budget, meeting the budget caps.

But like the House-approved bill, the Senate legislation rejects Pentagon plans to cut the number of Virginia-class submarines built by Electric Boat in Groton, Conn.

The bill also rejects the Air Force's plan to reduce the numbers of Air National guardsmen. The Pentagon's proposed cuts to Air Guard personnel would likely have affected the Connecticut Air Guard.

The Senate Armed Services Committee, whose members include Blumenthal,? and Joe Lieberman, I-Conn,. approved the $631 billion bill unanimously. A vote on it in the full Senate is expected next month.

Like the defense bill approved by the House last week, the Senate legislation also would overturn an Air Force proposal to retire all of its C-27 cargo planes, which were slated to be flown by the 103rd Airlift Wing based in Connecticut.

Sen. Carl Levin, D-Michigan, the chairman of the Armed Services Committee, said the Pentagon's proposed cuts hit the Guard disproportionally and Air Force officials were not the "least bit convincing" in explaining why the reductions are necessary.

The Senate Armed Services Committee agreed to allocate $1.3 billion for the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, built by Sikorsky in Connecticut.

But it did not include a provision, sponsored by Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-3^rd District, in the House defense bill, that would force the Pentagon to rebid the contract for the helicopters that the U.S. military provides to Afghan forces. A Russian company now holds that contract.

The Senate bill instead calls for a Government Accountability Office study of the Pentagon's relationship with the Russian? company.

"The end result I believe will be the same," Blumenthal said.

Unlike the House, the Senate accepted the Pentagon's cuts to the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, the military's costliest program.

The Defense Department wants to save $1.6 billion by eliminating 13 planned fighters, whose engines are built by Pratt &Whitney in Connecticut.

The Senate also maintained the Pentagon's current policy of holding back the purchase of six Joint Strike Fighters to prevent cost overruns by Lockheed Martin, the prime manufacturer of the plane.

"This continues a policy of tough love," Lieberman said.

Lieberman also said the Senate? strongly supports the aircraft and has no problems with its? Connecticut-manufactured engine.

The Senate agreed with the House in rejecting the Pentagon's call for another round of base closings, determined by a new Base Realignment and Closing Commission.

"As we said from the outset, BRAC is absolutely dead," Blumenthal said.

The Senate bill would also cap at $230,000 -- the amount the vice president gets paid -- the portion of a salary a defense company? executive could charge the U.S. government.?? Currently, hundreds of thousands of dollars in executive salaries are included in defense contracts.

"We just thought that was wrong," Lieberman said.

The defense bill also includes a proposal sponsored by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., that would order the military to come up with a plan to send women into the front lines of battle. The House bill would not lift the military's ban on women in combat.

If the full Senate approves the defense bill next month, as is expected, the differences between the Senate and House legislation would be negotiated.

SHAWINIGAN - The London Knights and the Shawinigan Cataractes will be coming from opposite directions when they collide in the final of the Mastercard Memorial Cup.

The Ontario Hockey League champion Knights have been off since Tuesday, as they clinched a bye to the final by finishing first in the round robin portion of the four-team tournament.

The host Cataractes took the long route, finishing last in the round robin but then winning the tiebreaker game against the Western Hockey League-winning Edmonton Oil Kings and dethroning the defending champion Saint John Sea Dogs in the semifinal.

The Knights (2-1) and Cataractes (3-2) will clash Sunday night in the final amid the clamour of the raucous Shawinigan fans at the Bionest Centre.

The question to be answered is whether the Knights have the advantage of being rested or the Cataractes are favoured for taking momentum into the decisive game.

"I guess we'll have to wait and see," was all Cataractes defenceman Morgan Ellis would say.

The main advantage could be home ice, where a veteran Shawinigan side seems to feed off the deafening noise, which may be intimidating for a mostly younger London team.

"The buildings' always really loud and it definitely helps," said Shawinigan rearguard Brandon Gormley, the Phoenix Coyotes' prospect who has been one of the stars of the tournament with nine points in five games.

The Cataractes also have confidence from having handed London its only loss of the tournament, a 6-2 thrashing on May 20 in which Gormley had two goals and an assist.

"We'll have to play good defence and we need our forwards playing good sound hockey and our goalie playing well," said Knights coach Mark Hunter.

The Knights have succeeded with a defence-first game and strong counterattacking from top forwards like Seth Griffith and Vladislav Namestnikov.

Their specialty is shot blocking, particularly from veteran centre Austin Watson - who is also their scoring leader thus far with four points in three games - and the top defence duo of Jarred Tinordi and Scott Harrington. Watson's linemates, the pesky twins Matt and Ryan Rupert, should also be a factor.

A problem is that Shawinigan's defence aces, Ellis and Gormley, have been particularly effective at getting shots through to the net for forwards to tip in or score on rebounds. Both prefer the well-placed wrist shot to the big slapper from the point.

"It's so hard to score in today's game," Gormley said. "Guys are blocking shots and collapsing down low.

"Any way we can get pucks to the net and keep them in at the blue-line, it benefits our forwards."

The game-winner that sank the Sea Dogs on Friday night was a case in point, as Ellis slipped a shot through that Yannick Veilleux tipped past goalie Mathieu Corbeil to break a 4-4 tie.

It was the Cataractes third game in as many nights and dispelled any notion that fatigue would be a factor.

Hunter welcomed the break because his team had been through a long season and playoff drive that culminated with their victory in five games over Niagara in the OHL final.

Shawinigan finished second to Saint John in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League regular season, but then were upset in seven games in the second round by Chicoutimi. That left them a 31-day break before the Memorial Cup, although they didn't sit idle.

Coach Eric Veilleux put his team through a punishing schedule of practices and off-ice workouts to get them into top shape in body and mind.

"We had a chance to talk during that month," said Veilleux. "Many things were addressed.

"When you go through adversity, you pretty much know the reasons why. I don't want to call it an accident, but we lost Game 7, which we weren't really planning on. The right things were said. You find solutions. They were clearly understood before this tournament and that's what we're seeing right now."

Now Shawinigan has a chance to be only the second team to win the Memorial Cup after having to play in a tiebreaker game. The first was also in Quebec in 2009 in Rimouski, where the Windsor Spitfires lost their first two games and then ran the table.

The final will be Shawinigan's fourth game in five nights and their sixth in 10. It will be London's fourth in 10 days.

"They look prepared, physically and mentally," said Hunter. "They're an older team, not depending on 17-year-olds. That helps."

Another factor is goaltending, where Shawinigan veteran Gabriel Girard has been solid while London's Michael Houser has been surprisingly off his game. Girard has been the starter since the Cataractes' second game after Alex Dubeau got the loss in the tournament opener against Edmonton.

He has posted a 2.50 goals-against average and .917 save percentage in four starts.

Houser was named the outstanding player of the OHL this season after tying a league record with 46 wins and posting a 2.47 average. But at the Memorial Cup, he has let in some soft ones. His average is 3.03 and his save percentage a weak .885.

But history favours London.

The Cataractes are a founding member of the QMJHL but have never won a Memorial Cup. The Knights are seeking their second in seven years, both with brothers Dale and Mark Hunter running the club.

They had a veteran, star-studded team in 2005 that included winger Corey Perry and won the event on home ice.

Dale Hunter was the coach then with Mark as general manager, but the roles are reversed after Dale took time out to coach the Washington Capitals this season.

Mark said the brothers have evolved since their first title.

"We're calmer than we were then," he said. "We know it won't help them if we're too wound up.

"They have to do it on the ice. We're just here to help them along. We don't want them too tight. It's going to be a game with a lot of emotion. And too much emotion is no good either."

Franklin, TN (Sports Network) - The University of Alabama won the NCAA Women's Golf Championship by one stroke on Friday when senior Brooke Pancake sank a four-foot par putt.

Alabama finished at 19-over par and trumped Southern California by one shot at the Vanderbilt Legends Course.

Alabama's Pancake, Hannah Collier, Jennifer Kirby and Stephanie Meadow combined for a six-over, final-round total. Courtney McKim's six-over 78 didn't count toward the team's score.

This was the first national championship for Alabama.

Southern California's quarter of Lisa McCloskey, Sophia Popov, Rachel Morris and Inah Park managed a five-over round, but came up just short in the school's bid for a third national title. This was its second straight second- place finish.

LSU finished third, just two back at plus-21. Virginia was fourth at 23-over par, followed by South Carolina, which posted a four-round score of 24-over.

Last year's winner, Purdue, took ninth.

Oklahoma's Chirapat Jao-Javanil shot a two-under 70 on Friday and won the individual title. She finished at six-under 282, which was good for a four- shot victory over Pancake.

Purdue's Laura Gonzalez and LSU's Tessa Teachman shared third at one-under par.

Microsoft Office Coming to iPad, iPhone and Android ? New Leak Confirms Rumor has it that along with the already expected iPad release later this year, Microsoft Office is currently under development for tablet running Google Android.

According to industry sources claiming familiarity with Microsoft, a target date in November has already been earmarked for the arrival of both versions of the world?s leading office suite.

The news comes following leaked information from an employee, claiming to have seen an iPad running the upcoming version of Microsoft Office ? a build said to identically match previously leaked images which were stringently denied by Microsoft.

What?s more, the source in question also revealed that the Office app indicates when loading that it is ?Office for iOS? as opposed to Office for iPad, which in turn could mean that the software will be compatible with the upcoming iPhone 5.

If true, the release of Microsoft Office for a range of iOS devices including the iPhone 5 could add a further string to Apple?s bow in terms of securing the as yet largely untapped corporate market.

One of the key selling-points a string of Windows 8 tablets are expected to feature later this year is full and seamless integration with current desktop workstations and laptops across the business world. While Apple has long provided an incredible ecosystem for those using iOS devices exclusively, the launch of Microsoft Office could lead to greater compatibility and ease of multiple device management like never before.

Of course, Microsoft has so far remained tight-lipped on the subject and Apple is as always unavailable for comment.

Expectations are growing by the day that the iPhone 5 release date could be announced at the upcoming 2012 WWDC in San Francisco, where it may share the spotlight with a truly market-shattering iPad Mini.

Apple?s projections for 2012 are already as bright as can be and the availability of a fully-functional MS Office app would certainly serve as a rather delightful cherry on top of their ever-growing cake.

Tens of millions of years ago, cephalopods were hiding from their enemies in clouds of ink. And it turns out that cuttlefish today produce ink that?s almost identical.

Researchers found fossils of two giant cephalopods that swam the seas more than 160 million years ago. Each one contained a preserved ink sac. Analysis of the sacs revealed that some melanin pigment?the stuff that makes the ink dark?had survived. Plus, the chemical makeup of the melanin was virtually the same as the pigment found in modern-day cuttlefish ink. The work is in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. It?s rare to find preserved soft tissue in the fossil record. In addition, biomolecules often break down, leaving none of the original organic compounds. Melanin, however, has a sturdy structure that resists this fate. And the methods these researchers used to isolate it from the fossils could help other paleontologists better identify preserved organic molecules and their functions.

The finding also demonstrates that when something works, evolution usually leaves it alone. Because if it ain?t broke, don?t fix it.
