Cont?d ? Bobbie Cox and his girlfriend escaped without injury before flames erupted in the home. A Worth Deputy arriving first on scene reported to E-911 that flames were fully involved and visible through the roof of the doublewide manufactured home.
Worth County Fire Rescue Captain Ray Salter said it took fire units nearly 12 minutes to arrive at the burning structure located off County Line and Thomas Road. He said the first initial knock down of flames was achieved with 500 gallons of water and within six minutes. The travel time however, did not contribute to saving the home which is a complete loss.
?That?s one of the benefits of these substations we?re trying to push,? Salter said. If the substation located just three miles from the county line had firefighters stationed there, he said, ?You are looking at three minutes response time versus 12 minutes.? ?The Captain said that kind of difference in response time can save a life should someone be trapped in a structure fire.
Salter commended the firefighters involved, EMS and 911 Dispatch for doing an excellent job in the unfortunate circumstance which cost another family their home close to the holiday season.
The cause of fire is undetermined as of Thursday evening but apparently started in the living room located in the central area of the home.
Red Cross is assisting the family with immediate needs. Anyone needing information on children?s and adult clothing sizes for this family or desiring to contribute to this family?s needs or Christmas, please contact the Worth County Fire Dept. at (229) 776-8223.
