888 licensed for internet gaming in Nevada

Gaming operator 888 Holdings was licensed by the Nevada Gaming Commission last week. 888 was granted an interactive gaming system manufacturers license, and is also licensed as a distributor and service provider. This means 888 is free to shop its service around to Las Vegas casinos licensed for online poker.

888 has a deal in place? with Treasure Island casino to launch online poker. 888 has also struck a non-exclusive deal to power Caesars Entertainment Corp. with a web based variation of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament.

888 Holdings operates online sportsbook 888Sport (SBR rating B).

888 CEO Brian Mattingley spoke of the announcement: "This is an historic moment for 888. This is the first time a company uniquely providing online gaming has been licensed by any U.S. jurisdiction," stated Mattingley, according to Reuters UK news.

The Nevada Gaming Commission has granted 21 companies with interactive gaming license, including the likes of the Golden Nugget, MGM Resorts, and Boyd Gaming.

This is the first time a company uniquely providing online gaming has been licensed by any U.S. jurisdiction. 888 CEO Brian MattingleySBR reported in February that Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval made history by legalizing online poker.

The legislation, Assembly Bill 114, contains a provision that will allow Nevada to enter compacts with other states that have larger populations.

Nevada would significantly raise poker generated revenue if it could reach a deal with California. Nevada's population is more than 10X less than that of California, which has 38 million.

While Nevada residents anxiously await the launch of online poker, other states across the US have joined the iGaming race. New Jersey legalized internet betting one week after the ink dried on Nevada's legislation. Delaware also expects to have internet gambling running later this fall.
