Summer jobs program provides opportunities for youth with local companies

A growing summer jobs program is providing more opportunities for teens and young adults with local companies.

Mayor Greg Fischer held a press conference at Thornton's -- one the biggest companies involved in his Summerworks program -- to talk about the it?s growth.

Summerworks helps youth, from 16 to 21 years old, to find part-time summer jobs.

This year, they placed 1,500 youth.

?We're really delighted. This program has gone from zero to 1,500 in three years. It will continue to grow every year,? he said.

Thirty-nine companies are involved in Summerworks.

The program also placed more than 100 young people with nonprofits, after receiving $650,000 in donations.?
